BIS HALLMARK & HUID POLICY
Policy update date: 10 July 2026
This BIS Hallmark & HUID Policy ("Policy") sets out the hallmarking standards, compliance obligations, and customer disclosures applicable to gold jewellery products sold by Aviana Diamonds LLP, operating under the brand name Aarunya ("Aarunya", "we", "our", "us"), through www.aarunya.co ("Website"). This Policy is published in compliance with the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016, the BIS (Hallmarking) Regulations, 2018, and all notifications issued thereunder including the mandatory hallmarking orders of 2021 and 2022.
1. DEFINITIONS

"BIS" | Bureau of Indian Standards — India's national standards body established under the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016, which administers the mandatory gold hallmarking scheme. |
"BIS Hallmark" | The official quality certification mark applied to gold jewellery by a BIS-licensed Assaying & Hallmarking Centre (AHC) confirming that the article meets the gold purity standard represented by its fineness mark. |
"BIS Licence" | The licence granted by BIS to a jeweller authorizing the sale of BIS-hallmarked jewellery. Aviana Diamonds LLP holds a valid BIS jeweller's licence. |
"Fineness Mark" | The numeric purity mark stamped on BIS-hallmarked jewellery — 958 (23K), 916 (22K), 875 (21K), 750 (18K), 585 (14K), 375 (9K). |
"HUID" | Hallmark Unique Identification — a 6-character alphanumeric code unique to each individual hallmarked jewellery article, enabling traceability and consumer verification through the BIS portal. |
"Mandatory Hallmarking" | The compulsory requirement under the BIS Hallmarking Orders of 2021 and 2022 that gold jewellery of 14K, 18K, and 22K sold by licensed jewellers must carry a BIS hallmark with HUID. |

3. MANDATORY BIS HALLMARKING COMPLIANCE
3.1 With effect from 1 April 2023, the sale of gold jewellery of 14-karat (585), 18-karat (750), and 22-karat (916) purity without mandatory BIS hallmarking is prohibited for licensed jewellers across all districts of India. Aarunya complies with this mandatory hallmarking requirement.
3.2 All gold jewellery sold by Aarunya through the Website is BIS hallmarked in compliance with the mandatory hallmarking orders. Each hallmarked article carries the complete 4-component BIS hallmark as described in Clause 4 of this Policy.
3.3 Aarunya does not sell gold jewellery without a BIS hallmark where hallmarking is legally mandated. Any product listed on the Website as containing gold will be hallmarked as required by law.
CONSUMER PROTECTION THROUGH MANDATORY HALLMARKING BIS hallmarking with HUID is India's most important consumer protection mechanism for gold jewellery. It independently verifies the purity of the gold and creates a permanent, traceable record of each article. Before purchasing gold jewellery — from any seller — consumers are advised to verify the BIS hallmark and HUID on the article and to independently verify the HUID through the BIS portal at bis.gov.in. |
4. THE BIS HALLMARK — FOUR MANDATORY COMPONENTS
4.1 Every BIS hallmarked gold jewellery article carries four distinct marks. All four must be present for the hallmark to be valid:

5. GOLD PURITY STANDARDS
5.1 Aarunya sells gold jewellery in the following BIS-prescribed purity standards:

5.2 The gold purity applicable to each product is clearly stated on the product page (e.g., "18K Yellow Gold", "18K White Gold", "22K Gold") and is reflected in the BIS fineness mark stamped on the product and confirmed in the GST tax invoice.
5.3 Gross gold weight (the weight of the product including diamonds) and net gold weight (the weight of gold metal only, excluding diamonds) are disclosed on the product page and on the GST invoice, within standard manufacturing weight tolerances of ±5%.
6. HUID — HOW TO VERIFY YOUR JEWELLERY
6.1 Every Aarunya gold jewellery article carries a Hallmark Unique Identification (HUID) — a 6-character alphanumeric code stamped on the article by the BIS-licensed Assaying & Hallmarking Centre at the time of hallmarking.
6.2 The HUID is displayed on:
- the physical jewellery article (stamped or laser-engraved);
- the GST tax invoice accompanying the order; and
- the product page on the Website for each specific article (where applicable for made-to-order or ready-stock items with confirmed HUIDs).
6.3 To verify the HUID of your Aarunya jewellery:

4 | Review the Result | The BIS portal will display the registered details for that HUID including: fineness/purity, assaying centre details, jeweller name, and date of hallmarking. |
5 | BIS CAAB App | Alternatively, download the BIS Care App from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store to scan and verify HUID codes using your smartphone camera. |
EVERY AARUNYA GOLD JEWELLERY ARTICLE HAS A UNIQUE HUID No two Aarunya gold jewellery articles carry the same HUID. Each HUID is registered with BIS at the time of hallmarking and is permanently associated with the specific article's purity, weight, and jeweller details. This makes hallmarked jewellery fully traceable and provides customers with independent, government-backed assurance of gold purity. |
7. RHODIUM PLATING ON WHITE GOLD
7.1 White gold jewellery sold by Aarunya is manufactured using an 18K or 14K white gold alloy (which typically appears slightly yellow-grey in its base form) and is then coated with rhodium plating to achieve the bright white, mirror-like finish.
7.2 The BIS hallmark confirms the purity of the base gold alloy (e.g., 750 for 18K). The hallmark is applied to the base metal before rhodium plating. The rhodium plating is a surface finishing treatment and does not affect the gold purity or the validity of the BIS hallmark.
7.3 Rhodium plating naturally wears away over time with regular use, which may cause the underlying yellowish tinge of white gold to become faintly visible — particularly on ring shanks and other high-contact areas. This is Normal Wear and Tear and does not indicate a reduction in gold purity. Rhodium re-plating is available as part of Aarunya's paid maintenance services.
8. CUSTOMER RIGHTS — HALLMARKING COMPLAINTS
8.1 If a Customer has reasonable grounds to believe that:
- an Aarunya product does not carry a valid BIS hallmark where one is legally required;
- the HUID on the product does not match BIS records; or
- the gold purity of the product does not correspond to the fineness mark stamped on it,
the Customer should contact Aarunya at info@aarunya.co immediately with photographs and the product details. Aarunya will investigate and provide a response within 7 Business Days.
8.2 In addition to contacting Aarunya, Customers retain the right to lodge a complaint directly with BIS. Hallmarking complaints may be submitted to:

8.3 Where a BIS inspection confirms that an Aarunya product does not meet the hallmarking standard represented, Aarunya will provide a full replacement or refund as appropriate.
9. POLICY AMENDMENTS
Aarunya reserves the right to update this Policy to reflect changes in BIS regulations, notification orders, or operational practices. Revised versions will be published on the Website with an updated effective date. Customers are encouraged to verify the current hallmarking regulations through bis.gov.in.
